I saw your ad in Time Magazine (I’m a subscriber), but I have to admit that since it was an advertisement I thought the other end of that website would be asking me for money and since I’m one broke sistah, I just steered clear *shrug*. If you think you may get a substantial group together, we may have to talk to PJ about using the upstairs.

Let me know and I’ll look into setting it up.

PJ’s has a great deal: 2 huge steaks cooked on the grill, 2 baked potatoes, 2 salads, and a pitcher of beer for $25!!! You can’t afford not to go there!!! PJ’s is just 1 or 2 blocks east of Montrose on West Gray.

  98. Good morning all. Steak Night is all set up. We went in to PJs last night, strictly for business/medicinal purposes, and told him we may have a decent sized group coming tomorrow.

If we get too many people, he said we can have the upstairs as our own if need be. I know we’ll have at least 10 people, but that’s not even counting anyone on this blog that may come… or the Rollergirls. Anyone heard if any of them can make it?

Also, who from the blog is coming? Let me or William know today so we can make sure PJ (owner of PJs, obviously)gets enough steaks.

We also told him about the Just Ask campaign, the new ad hitting publications and sent him to the website. He thought it was an incredible story and is excited to meet Reggie and the gang!

    Good luck, Houston Roller Derby!

  121. Hey all. Somebody may want to change the heading at the top of the page on this topic. It still reads “tonight” for the interview.

I’d hate for any of the new friends logging in to think they can still watch Reggie work his magic on Network TV!!

And Lou, what did you say to scare off the Rollergirls?!? You invited them to steak night with Reggie , right? Not back to your place to look at your “etchings” I hope?

    Comment by Matt | May 7, 2008 | Reply

  122. All I said was, “William’s gonna be there!” Then they all started coughing like they were coming down with the flu or something. One threw up though I didn’t think she was sick. Those roller derby girls are pretty tough so something had to be really bad to nauseate them so thoroughly. I hope it wasn’t something I said!

Comment by - the blogger formerly known as Lou | May 7, 2008 | Reply

  123. Actually, that worked out ok because William is required, by law, to stay at least 150 yards away from any woman in skates.

It was the only fetish-based restraining order in Texas legal history.

  125. Aah, you’re forgetting the loophole: skates AND fishnet hose. Just one or the other and I’m golden.
The coughing and vomiting are actually manifestations of jealousy and desire, Lou. Ask your shrink. That is why I am duty bound to create more of me to effectively spread the love. Or disease, depending upon your perspective.
Remember: don’t forget your safe word!

  145. Brian and Shelley,
How are you guys doing? I just realized that Matt, William and I have been hogging the blog. I think we were hoping you would join in our conversation but I guess you’re a little shy. So, instead, how about if I join yours? Ok, here goes…do you know what kind of coddee I drink at home? No, it isn’t Starbucks, it’s Community Club New Orleans Blend with Chicory. It is so strong that you have to put in twice the amount of creamer to make it come out normal looking. After you’ve had a cup of that, you’re ready for the day! And, if you had any keft, you could use it as a furniture stripper! I like to have Starbucks at home too but I like my New Oeleans blend. Reminds me of, well, New Orleans.

  147. Lou you are right. and I don’t always agree with you. Only this one time. That coffee is very strong and I didn’t want to use all the sugar and cream. It is good coffee. I think you may just have to use less coffee.

Comment by Reggie Bibbs | May 7, 2008 | Reply

  148. hey Lou I am good here I thought you might be mad at me I asked twice how you were doing and never got a answer but sorry I did not join you and Matts conversation but I like you and Matt as well I will join in next time also I would like to try your New Orleans blen coffee although I have never had anything that strong before and if you can use it for furniture stripper I may not have a stomach left afterwords and its nice to hear from you Lou

    Comment by Brian | May 7, 2008 | Reply

  149. Yea it’s real strong. Even with a lot of milk. When I make coffee at home it use the powdered creamer the good stuff and that works good. But when you have strong coffee milk works best.

    Comment by Tim | May 7, 2008 | Reply

  153. Yea Brian, that Chicory can really make a nice cup of coffee but it will be strong and bitter. Chicory is a root they used to “extend” coffee when it was in short supply and gives the coffee a nutty, bitter taste.

The next big get together, I promise to make everyone on the blog that shows up a Cuban espresso. Provided we get together at someone’s house that has an espresso machine. A Cuban espresso is strong, sweet and will keep you up for DAYS!

Got the secret recipe from a friend of mine.

Not many places in town you can get coffee made that way, except a few Cuban restaurants. I can also show you guys how make a mean Turkish coffee and a fine Vietnamese iced coffee.

Ok, I have to go to bed now and all of this talk about coffee is making me want an espresso. Maybe a shot of whiskey is what I need instead.

  154. Matt the Cuban coffee sounds pretty good but I really don’t know about trying it as you say it will keep you up for days heck I sleep now but not that well thats the last thing I need is to stay up for days LOL but it does sound pretty good

Several years later, it was taken over by the Bank of the Southwest, the couple years later taken over or merge with MBANK, then my department became part of MTECH (computers) then was brought by EDS..this was in 1988. Today, I hit 30 years. Made it through countless lay offs (one two weeks ago). People I started out with, are no longer around, either they had quick or been laid off. In May 1987, I started my association with the Texas NF Foundation.

There is the Bob Marley tune “I Don’t Want To Wait in Vain”, of which Ms Annie Lennox did an amazing cover, and I seem to recall a jam by Fishbone entitled “Waiting For The One Day”.
I just watched the video and I must say I am quite impressed, Reggie, but I really think those three white guys in the band are holding you back. I really think we need a washtub bass player. Anybody on the blog play washtub bass, or at least open to learn?

  234. Reggie: When you strum, you can go both forward and back. It all depends on how fast you want to play. I’d say practice both fast and slow, using all strings most of the time. Right now the higher ones are more in tune than the rest, but I say do what makes the most noise!

And thanks to Lou, I can’t shake the image of a 13-year old Lou (complete with full beard, even then I imagine) trying to march and play a washtub bass.

  235. Hey Shelley! You missed a great time last night. You’ll have to join us sometime.

Do you play any instruments? A washtub bass perhaps?

Actually, to play with us, all you have to do is have a love of making noise!!!

    Comment by Matt | May 9, 2008 | Reply

  236. That was fun and the next time I will have gotten better. When I get that down I will work on other instruments.

Comment by Reggie Bibbs | May 9, 2008 | Reply

  237. Reggie:
The easiest way to figure out when to strum is to just clap along with the song, and then just strum where you clapped. In a perfect world, you would use all the strings. But with the tuning of the beast right now, you would probably risk auditory damage if you used all of the strings every time. As far as which way to go, the answer is which ever way the spirit moves you. As long as it is in rhythm.
And Shelley, Brian, Meredyth, and any other interested party, I have more noisemakers (what the sophisticates call instruments), so all you gotta do is show up and you’re in the band.
And Lou, I’m talking about a ‘bass’ the instrument, not the fish.

  239. I’ve got a Squier Strat, an old Korean strat knockoff, a 5 string bass, a 6 string acoustic with nylon strings, a mandolin, a trumpet, a flute, various kazoos, snare drum, xylophone, various rattles, kalingas, an accordion, various recorders and whistles, a tambourine, a rainstick, a didgeridoo, maracas, castanets, a mini steel drum. Basically a lot of different ways to make a lot of different noise. It would be very cool if you played with us!. You’ve seen the video; we need all the help we can get!

Comment by Reggie Bibbs | May 9, 2008 | Reply

  247. Yes! When is camp? We should get together a Just Adk orchestra and teach you all a tune before then. How cool would that be?!?

And you mean the theme from Delivere3ance? Dueling Banjos? I’m not really sure, but I think it’s mostly C and G.

    Comment by Matt | May 9, 2008 | Reply

  248. Hey that’s it’s. Camp is this September. It would be perfect. do you know we can do a lot with this. Someone will learn that

  250. Brian: I’ve always loved steel guitar too, but have never played one.

Maybe we can learn at the same time?

I am so glad to see you all expressing interest in making music, it’s a great way to unwind and have a little fun.

  264. If you are serious all you have to do is have your mom talk to Cindy at the Foundation. Let them know about your diet and I know they can work something out. You can do that a head of time.

  266. Ok, late night for me and I’m on my way to bed. BUT, just wanted to let Reggie know we at PJs (where we had steak night) and that PJ was so happy to meet you. We had told him about the Just Ask thing and what you do and he was very moved by it. He even mentioned that when we were at Steak Night that there was a lady there that saw you on Fox 26 and wanted to say hello.

Problem was, you were already mobbed by “adoring fans” so she didn’t get the chance to say hello!

Don’t let it go to your head Reggie!!

    Good night everyone.

  267. Reggie;
I realized after we split Thursday that I took all the picks. That’s ok: a good chance to rip some skin off your fingers while you learn the music.
Brian: if you want to learn the mandolin, show up at the next jam of Mr Bibbs and His Hootenanny (or whatever the band is called) and you will. And, once again, we are still in search of a washtub bass player, particularly since I disabused Lou of the notion that it was a fish or beer.
Shelley, you strike me as a kazoo player. Show up for the hootenanny and work your magic.
Reggie, I will see you tomorrow ( or today. damn bars) for the Parade. I understand if you have to bring Lou with you. The Deliverance chords are as follows:
    GGGCG

  278. Hey Reggie, sorry we missed you at Lou’s after the parade. I hear you had your autoharp and were ready to jam! I didn’t stay long anyway. I ended up leaving William and Lou alone together at about 9:00 – so Lou’s house is probably nothing but a pile of rubble by now.

Also wanted to say my girlfriend Kimka really enjoyed meeting you. She said you were a really great guy… but then again she didn’t get to talk to you THAT much! ; )

And Happy Mother’s Day to everyone on the blog it applies to!!
