I like to write, but at present am short on words to express the empathy I feel for you and all that you have endured Reggie. I wish you increased success in your endeavors. I saw your ad in Time Magazine (I’m a subscriber), but I have to admit that since it was an advertisement I thought the other end of that website would be asking me for money and since I’m one broke sistah, I just steered clear *shrug*. Continued luck and success.

I couldn’t survive waking up without coffee. That’s why I brew my own coffee at home – that way I can drink gallons of the stuff. Even bathe in it if I wanted to… not that I ever have or anything. But one tip if you ever try it, let the coffee cool down before getting into a bathtub full of it.
Good morning all. Steak Night is all set up. We went in to PJs last night, strictly for business/medicinal purposes, and told him we may have a decent sized group coming tomorrow.
If we get too many people, he said we can have the upstairs as our own if need be. I know we’ll have at least 10 people, but that’s not even counting anyone on this blog that may come… or the Rollergirls. Anyone heard if any of them can make it?
Also, who from the blog is coming? Let me or William know today so we can make sure PJ (owner of PJs, obviously)gets enough steaks.
We also told him about the Just Ask campaign, the new ad hitting publications and sent him to the website. He thought it was an incredible story and is excited to meet Reggie and the gang!

All I said was, “William’s gonna be there!” Then they all started coughing like they were coming down with the flu or something. One threw up though I didn’t think she was sick. Those roller derby girls are pretty tough so something had to be really bad to nauseate them so thoroughly. I hope it wasn’t something I said!
Actually, that worked out ok because William is required, by law, to stay at least 150 yards away from any woman in skates.

How are you guys doing? I just realized that Matt, William and I have been hogging the blog. I think we were hoping you would join in our conversation but I guess you’re a little shy. So, instead, how about if I join yours? Ok, here goes…do you know what kind of coddee I drink at home? No, it isn’t Starbucks, it’s Community Club New Orleans Blend with Chicory. It is so strong that you have to put in twice the amount of creamer to make it come out normal looking. After you’ve had a cup of that, you’re ready for the day! And, if you had any keft, you could use it as a furniture stripper! I like to have Starbucks at home too but I like my New Oeleans blend. Reminds me of, well, New Orleans.

Yea it’s real strong. Even with a lot of milk. When I make coffee at home it use the powdered creamer the good stuff and that works good. But when you have strong coffee milk works best.

Yea Brian, that Chicory can really make a nice cup of coffee but it will be strong and bitter. Chicory is a root they used to “extend” coffee when it was in short supply and gives the coffee a nutty, bitter taste.
The next big get together, I promise to make everyone on the blog that shows up a Cuban espresso. Provided we get together at someone’s house that has an espresso machine. A Cuban espresso is strong, sweet and will keep you up for DAYS!
Got the secret recipe from a friend of mine.
Not many places in town you can get coffee made that way, except a few Cuban restaurants. I can also show you guys how make a mean Turkish coffee and a fine Vietnamese iced coffee.
Ok, I have to go to bed now and all of this talk about coffee is making me want an espresso. Maybe a shot of whiskey is what I need instead.

Really Matt? I wonder where can we find someone who can make a mean German Chocolate Cake? LOL I bet we can find someone to do that. That person may need want something in return. Like lessons in playing musical interments. Banjo perhaps or acoustic guitar, mandolin, and a little voice lessons. Something easy. You know what I mean. Not a lot.
We need to get William to bring his autoharp for you to play. That’s one almost anyone can jump right in with. For a good cake, I’ll even throw in lessons on how to make Cuban coffee!

On May 8, 1978, I started working for Preston State Bank in Dallas. Several years later, it was taken over by the Bank of the Southwest, the couple years later taken over or merge with MBANK, then my department became part of MTECH (computers) then was brought by EDS..this was in 1988. Today, I hit 30 years. Made it through countless lay offs (one two weeks ago). People I started out with, are no longer around, either they had quick or been laid off. In May 1987, I started my association with the Texas NF Foundation.
John, You have done a lot. And I sure every job you had was happy to have you. The good thing about that is, The jobs didn’t work and you became involved with the Texas NF Foundation. You are a very big part of the Foundation’s growth. They are happy to have you and I happy to have meet you through the Foundation. So everything worked out very well.
Bart haven’t seen you here in a while. I just thought about it. Why don’t you join us for stake night? Maybe you and Slopis. Post it let mat know if you can make it. I can get you caught up on some really good things in the making.

Last night was really fun. I wish everyone could have been there. Matt William and John. MAN! Thank you so much for helping me with playing the harp. That was cool. I watched the video and I have to say, it was pretty good. I think with a little more practice I will have learn something new. That was cool. You never know what you can do it you don’t try.

#219: The only Prince song I can seem to think of right now is ‘Darling Nikki’, Reggie, and I am pretty sure that’s not it. There is the Bob Marley tune “I Don’t Want To Wait in Vain”, of which Ms Annie Lennox did an amazing cover, and I seem to recall a jam by Fishbone entitled “Waiting For The One Day”.
I just watched the video and I must say I am quite impressed, Reggie, but I really think those three white guys in the band are holding you back. I really think we need a washtub bass player. Anybody on the blog play washtub bass, or at least open to learn?
If your computer won’t stream it try right clicking it and saving it to your desktop? Maybe that would work to view it.
William you are going to have to show me how I should move my hands when I play the harp. Do I need to go forward and back or just forward. Should it be fast? Should I use all strings?

Reggie: When you strum, you can go both forward and back. It all depends on how fast you want to play. I’d say practice both fast and slow, using all strings most of the time. Right now the higher ones are more in tune than the rest, but I say do what makes the most noise!
And thanks to Lou, I can’t shake the image of a 13-year old Lou (complete with full beard, even then I imagine) trying to march and play a washtub bass.

That was fun and the next time I will have gotten better. When I get that down I will work on other instruments.

The easiest way to figure out when to strum is to just clap along with the song, and then just strum where you clapped. In a perfect world, you would use all the strings. But with the tuning of the beast right now, you would probably risk auditory damage if you used all of the strings every time. As far as which way to go, the answer is which ever way the spirit moves you. As long as it is in rhythm.
And Shelley, Brian, Meredyth, and any other interested party, I have more noisemakers (what the sophisticates call instruments), so all you gotta do is show up and you’re in the band.
And Lou, I’m talking about a ‘bass’ the instrument, not the fish.
what all do you have William I used to have a Fender stratacaster but I lost interest and never played it but I think it would be cool to play with all of yall and would be a lot of fun
I’ve got a Squier Strat, an old Korean strat knockoff, a 5 string bass, a 6 string acoustic with nylon strings, a mandolin, a trumpet, a flute, various kazoos, snare drum, xylophone, various rattles, kalingas, an accordion, various recorders and whistles, a tambourine, a rainstick, a didgeridoo, maracas, castanets, a mini steel drum. Basically a lot of different ways to make a lot of different noise. It would be very cool if you played with us!. You’ve seen the video; we need all the help we can get!
