Friends of Neurofibromatosis Group on Facebook
To all my friends who are reading this blog, I’d like to introduce you to my “Friends of Neurofibromatosis” group on Face Book. We have quite a few members now, over 70. I am now in contact with a few good friends that I had lost contact with from the 1980s. My friend Dr. Vincent “Vic” Riccardi is now part of our “Friends of Neurofibromatosis” group. Iām sure anyone who has NF may know him or have heard of him. Dr. Riccardi is a legend when it comes to neurofibromatosis research and treatment. He has not only been a good doctor, but a good friend. He has done a lot for NF. At one time he was on the Board of the Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation. He was its Medical Director for many years helping decide where to give the money we raised for research. Hopefully, maybe we could get him to come to the blog from time to time.
Two other friends have showed up too! Megan Phillips and Andy Ganster are now online with us. Megan, Andy and I shot some TV commercials with Lou back in 1989. That’s when we first met Lou through Bob Hopkins, then the TNF Executive Director. Those were some pretty serious commercials but they helped neurofibromatosis get some much needed awareness.
I hope anyone visiting this blog will also join us on Facebook as well. We will all learn as we go alone on Facebook. The games and quizzes are fun and challenge. It a good way to find friend you may have lost contact with. Believe me, I know!

I want to say I saw Dr. Vinceant Riccardi one time too. A long time ago it would of been one time in 1986 or 87. I really don’t see a doc anymore for my NF, I probally should. Maybe I will again.

Speaking of Hillary, I accidently almost sent a Hilary joke to my boss, who I am not sure a Hilary fan. OOPS but thankfully was able to stop it before it went all the way thru, thank God for a glitz, that was a close call. I was really scared that day. I am sorry to hear that. I wished there was something I could do, just know that I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Brian some time if feels good to vent here. You can and you have friends here that will support you. You have to think about you and your mom are together. I know she would not want you to worry about her. Just try to help her as much as you can. Maybe you can let your cousin keep the dog until the dog is better and you can help your mom more.
thanks Patricia I wish I could do something also the vet cost me 200 and something to update her shots and the first time we took her to the vet for throwing up it cost me 185 I think and they told me they dont really know whats wrong now to me thats stupid to pay that kind of money when they dont even freaking know whats wrong they are the vet they go to school for that stuff they should know whats wrong

Vets are expensive, they need to have dogie insurance. Their vet bills cost more then some of mine.
my mom says that you can only get insurance on them if they are puppies they wont do it if its an adult dog

I havnt been outside yet, but I have to go out and shovel the walkway soon before it gets too much or else it will freeze over tonight, that always happens.. last time it did this we ended up with about a 2 inch thick layer of ice for a week.

I honestly dont know Reggie I am feeding her some like diet food I think that we bought from the vet but also her blood work that we had done at the vet came back all good so I dont know what is wrong with her but my next step is to have x rays done the vet does not know what is wrong either
One time spot ate a june bug and he threw up all night long, he finally got better. we feed our dogs science diet and they do good on that, some times they eat something they are not suppose too and get sick, I am glad you are keeping your dog, I hope she gets better. they are like kids, they want to put every thing in thier mouths.

My dogs eat everything in sight. One time I had a peanutbutter cookie in my hand and emily grab out of hand and ate it. she is a bit spoiled.

Not sure. This was done through a national NF organization so perhaps somebody high up had a connection.
I think it started by someone contacting him and asking him to take part in doodle for neurofibromatosis. The same project that I was ask to help out with.

Alright Lou you have to be nice to me now.. I’m having really bad contractions, lol. I dont think I’m going into labor, although I was out shoveling snow for about an hour earlier, but I’m in pain!!

I’m still having contractions, I started timing them, they are pretty close together, I am just waiting to see if they stop or not. Its been about 1 1/2 hours now.
Emily I think you need to go to the hospital if they are pretty close dont wait till the last minute then you would really be up the creek without a paddle
Nah, I hate hospitals, I always try to stay at home for as long as I can when I’m in labor. With my second son I didnt go to the hospital til I was in tears from the pain.
Emily how far do you have to travel to the hospital? With the weather being the way it is, make sure you don’t wait to long. that would be funny if your baby was born on Lou’s birthday.

Oh yea, and how far away is the hospital and how bad is the weather right now?
I almost had to deliver my sister’s baby. I was running around the house like who ever that was saying the sky is falling. The 911 operator was instructing me what to do, while the ambulance is on the way. I told my sister, don’t have the baby yet. wait.
When I had Vanessa, they said I was dialated to a 4 the “STUPID” nurse that was hooking me up said on no something not right, and just walked out of the room, and left my ass there I was all by myself I was like what the hell do you mean????? they had not yet got an iv in me I was so scared what was wrong is I was not dialated to a 4 I was dialted to a 10 a big fat 10 I got to the hospital just in time. they did not have time to run a iv give me drugs are anything. I was really mad at that stupid nurse saying “something is not right” and then just leaving me there.
My hospital is about 5-10 minutes away depending on traffic, probably more like 10 today with the snowstorm.
The contractions are coming anywhere between 2 and 5 minutes, they have been for about 1 1/2 hours now, they are consistant in time but they are still coming, I just now had to stop writing this because of one, lol.
Wait, when is Lou’s birthday??? I will have to cross my legs and keep this baby in til thats passed!
that is funny Reggie, Vanessa father did not want to take me to the hospital, he kept saying but it is not time yet. what if you are not in labor what do they do, I said they send me home, but if I am and you don’t take you deliever a baby so what do you want to do, he was a real stupid a$$.
Don’t wait too long, you know how babies can be all of sudden decide “here I am” at least that is what Vanessa did. And she is still doing that to this day. lol

I will give it another hour or so and if they havnt stopped I will call my doctor to see what I should do. I dont want to have him today though! My kids leave in 2 days, I dont want to have the baby while they are still here because my husband might not be able to be in the room with me if he has to watch them.

lol Little Mortimer, as Lou calls him, will have to wait a day or two. I am only in early labor so they sent me home to wait it out a bit. They did give me something to help me sleep tonight though! So it could be tomorrrow or the next day, but its definitely coming!

I have been in Galveston taking care of MIL, good days and bad days I hate cancer it does drain everyone around not just the one it attacts but to everyone watching what it does to the ppl you love takes a chunk out of you.

Shelley did you get to see the photos we took. That way you can get kind of an idea how things went. It was a nice thought that you would have like to go. Maybe you can come to camp or to the nf picnic if we can get that off the ground.

Lou, he’s still in there. HE WONT COME OUT!!! I spent all night last night having horrible contractions about 2-3 minutes apart and when I got up to walk around they totally stopped. I am getting tired of this, I am sore and exhausted. Blah.

Emily I can’t find the photos you posted on the lunar eclipse.
My grandfather rebuilt the old wooden telescope that is (or was) on display at the Museum of Natural Science in Houston. He was a volunteer there for years & found it in a storage room in pieces. He had a special lens to look at the eclipse and take photos.
Emily, maybe if you play some Barry Manilow real loud, like they use in hostage situations to get people to surrender.

I received this recently, thought I would share this, I thought it was funny.
THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what,
with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill BOTH ways
yadda, yadda, yadda!
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in
hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard
I had it and how easy they’ve got it!
But now that.. I’m over the ripe old age of thirty, I can’t help but
look around and notice the youth of today. You’ve got it so easy! I
mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today you don’t know how good you’ve
got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn’t have The Internet. If we wanted to
know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up
ourselves, in the card catalog!!
There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter…with a
pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in
the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!
There were no MP3’s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to
hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had
to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ’d usually
talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!
We didn’t have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone
and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that’s it! And we
didn’t have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had
no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your
bookie, a collections agent, you just didn’t know!!! You had to pick it
up and take your chances mister!
We didn’t have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
‘Space Invaders’ and ‘asteroids’ and the graphics sucked! Your guy was a
little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were
no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you
could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster
and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium
seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old
broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn’t see, you were just
screwed!
Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15
channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had
to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were
screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and
walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon
Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning. Do you
hear what I’m saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you
spoiled little bastards!
And we didn’t have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had
to use the stove or go build a frigging fire … imagine that! If we
wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it
over the stove forever like an idiot.
That’s exactly what I’m talking about! You kids today have got it too
easy. You’re spoiled!!!!!!!!!
You guys wouldn’t have lasted five minutes back in 1980! Oh yea, and a
seatbelt was Mom throwing her arm across your chest every time she hit
the brakes.

Well only another day or so til I can have my Starbucks again! The doctor said that I could go at any time, I wont get all descriptive, lol, but I progressed quite a bit over the weekend and she said that my body is definitely ready, its just a matter of waiting for the contractions to start again.
Emily that is good news. Remember don’t look at any pictures of Lou. You don’t want to scare the baby back in.
