It was my first time and will NOT be my last time. Looking forward to next year. I also want to thank the Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation for Helping my family to be a part in the Fun. 🙂 Let spread the word and try to have more campers next year. 8. Camp is just for the weekend, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. I know, its too short of time. Again, we luck out of no rain. On the way home, the rain hit us as we got into the DFW area. I took close to 400 photos, I will try to send selected shots to Reggie. I believe the dates for 2008 will be Sept. 5 – 7.

  139. Reggie probably can also add to his experience. When I go to a new doctor, or emergency for what ever reason, they ask do you have any medical conditions. Oh yeah, I have Neurofibromatosis. They say Neuro – what ? How do you spell it? Thats N E U R O F I…….. Then what is it?
Just say I have it, I do not think this is related to what I am in here for. I find, that more dentist and some of there assistants know more and heard more about NF than the regular medical staff do at the hospitals. Maybe they come across to more NF patients since most (I say most because I dont) go to the dentist regularily (sp).

    Comment by John P | October 9, 2007 | Reply

  140. What makes is different for me is, When I went to the ER it was at MD Anderson. A hospital I go to on a regular bases. They know my medical history. I also go the dental clinic there. I guess you can say Lucky for me. I would hate to have to go to a hospital where they don’t know me. When I go to MD Anderson some of the workers there tease me. They say are you sure you are not an employee. I go alone with them and say. I feel like one.

  141. Since 2001, been using the same primary doctor and the same neurologist so I usually do not have to go through the rountine, and last time for emergency been 6 years. I thought maybe like when we have those NF sysmposium (it was in Houston this year, next year 2008 will be in Dallas), to combine the symposium and camp together. Just a thought. But then, I rather do the horseback riding, other activites then listen to bunch of doctors talk which I would fall asleep anyway….lol

  146. Shelley I know you don’t have nf, but I know you would take it in place of your son, if I could I would take a worse case if it ment my daughter would not have it, watching our children with nf is so much painful then having it us ourselves, you are one of us, I feel like we are a family, and you are a part of the family. You, yourself may not have nf, but it does affect you. I bet you are a terrific mother

  150. I second that emotion! Shelley use to email me all the time. And I still get emails from her. I count Shelley as one of my friends. I ask her to comment on my blog and she has been very faithful to all of us, by being a part of this blog. Shelly may not have NF, but we love the support we get. Thank you Patricia thank you for your nice comment about Shelley.

I know my mom told me the same thing. She would take everything I had to go through. I say no way! I would say I would keep it the way it is. The only thing is that I would hope that I was the only one with NF. And my nieces and Nephews would not have to worry about the disorder.

  181. Wednesday, Oct. 17 after getting off from work, sleep couple hours thinking of heading out to Oklahoma City, visit the Murrah Memorial site then on Thursday morning head out west on Route 66 ( all I need now is a convertible corvette) drive to Amarillo. Amarillo is home to the Big Texan Staeak house, where if you can eat a 4.5 lbs steak in a hour, maye its 2, it is free. I do not think I will go for that, I have hard time just to eat a 1 lb steak. Hope to take plenty pictures and want to see what a 4.5 pound steak look like. They tell me who ever tries it, have to paye the $72.00 before you eat it, I guess they want the money bofore you croke, get sick or die of a heart attack. Then if you do eat it all, you get a refund. I think I seen the paramedics park on the side of the building just in case.

  182. Hew John, Make sure you tell us all about it. I don’t know if they will let you take a photo of it. I ate a large steak at the Taste Of Texas. It was suppose to be for two. Well It was for one. ME. Paying 75 bucks is a bummer, but I guess they can’t fill every one’s bellies that say they can eat a large stake. There is still a Route 66? I would like to see that. Have fun John.

  183. Going from OKC to west as far as Arizona/California, it is mostly I40. In Oklahoma, you can find roads to the towns along the highway as Hist. 66, and one section in Oklahoma, I guess what we would call a frontage road along the Interstate, still call Route 66. All I have time for maybe to go as for as the Texas/New Mexico border. I need to get back to Dallas on Monday, Oct. 22 for the Denise Terrill Golf tournament. Some time later I may do the Route 66 trip from OKC to Tulsa. Did some research on the internet (Route 66), still some interesting sites to see, now a tourist attrations.

  185. Wednesday, Oct. 17: I am up in Oklahoma City. A three hour drive from Dallas, took several hour nap after getting off from work, then headed out. Got here after 4pm, checked in the hotel, then drove out to the Oklahoma City Memorial (site of the Murrah Federal Building) where that person or persons blew up the building killing some 183 people and children. It was a very solem moment being there, hard to believe that someone could do such a thing, a Amerian doing this to other Americans. I stop here on my views. I wanted to get here to take advantage of the afternoon light (pictures) and will come back in the morning before I start to get my kicks on Route 66.

  187. Thursday, Oct. 18: Left OKC this morning after going back to the Murrah Federal Building. Them started the journey on Route 66. Most of it is I40, but the frontage road part is the old Route 66. Can still see some of the old buildings, gas stations. Made it in to Amarillo early evening, check in then went to the Big Texan Steak Place. It was a pretty good steak. Tomorrow to finish the journey then head back to Irving.

  189. Friday, Oct 19: Got up early this morning. Orginal plains were to drive to the Texas/New Mexico state line, decided I cam this far, instead went to Palo-Verda Canyon. I dreaded the 6 hours drive home, thats what I estimated, and it was just little over 6 hrs, including stoping for gas, and getting a bite to eat. Home now to rest up for Monday, the Denise Terrill Charity Classic – Golf.

  195. Hey John T. What is Denise Terrill Charity, I work for TDCJ, and every Year during the months of Sep and Oct we have fund raisers for different organizations only thing the charity has to be on “the list of approved charity”, NF is not on that list, most years I am on that committe, and we have all kinds of functions to raise monies for different organizations, provided they are on “the list” so this year my department, (classification and records) have risen over $6,000 and we have one more big event. Our goal this year was $5000. Good Luck to you and have fun

  196. The Denise Terrill Charity Event is a golf tournament (event) to raise funds for NF and MD Anderson hospital. Denise Terrill is a very good friend of mine and to everyone who has NF. She also has a daughter that has NF. I will post a link to her site.

  201. In August when they had the Tennis, it was hot. Unless the lucky ones, they got to play inside in a ac court. Now, this year for golf was wet and cilly. This was my 2nd time able to attend the golf, first time was the first one in 2002. The golf will be about the same time next year, and the tennis will be in August.
