Thanks to my friend, Matt, and the tour manager of the Neville Brothers, I received several autographed photos of myself with Charles Neville the other day. I received Aaron’s yesterday.
I had sent the four brothers autographed photos of me with each of them and had them framed. I also sent some extra for them to sign and send back.
Charles Neville signed two extra copies and took time to express mail them back. It means a lot to me that someone as famous as Charles would take the time to sign photos, write a thank you note and then send it to me from a UPS station in Massachusetts. In fact, he even called to make sure he had the right address! Now, how nice is that?!!
Charles, Aaron and the Neville Brothers are the kind of musicians and role models that I am proud to call my friends.
Thank you Charles and Aaron for being so kind and caring.
Long Live the Neville Brothers!!!
Tonight was another great night at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!
I started out with the live stock show and all of the other fun things. Oh, my God! Did I enjoy the FOOD. Everything was to die for. Deep fried Oreos, steak burgers, foot-long sausage sandwiches, giant cinnamon rolls with lots of icing. But don’t take my word for it, check out the photos for yourself.
I went to the Rodeo to see Martina McBride. She was great and the music was terrific! She really sang her heart out. She sang all of her best songs and the crowd loved it. Of course, so did I. Martina loves Houston and she looks forward to her show here every year.
I know why she loves Houston. I feel it every time I go out. So many people here have been so kind to me. I’m thankful to be in a great city like Houston. It made me feel so good when people I never met came up to be today and spoke kind words to me. You will see them in my photos. People like that are heroes to me!
Cowboy Up, America! When a cowboy’s in a pinch, he just tightens up the cinch, spurs his horse and rides right through it, cause that’s the way the Duke would do it. He’d Cowboy Up.
This year it’s going to be another terrific year for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Just as I did last year, I will be there enjoying all activities for the 2008 show.
This year I plan to see more of the livestock show then I did last year. As for music, there are several performers I want to see this year. There are two I have in mind now, that I want to see Rascal Flatts and Tim McGraw I will see more then one, I hope. All that to look forward too, and I haven’t even started on the great food.
How many of you are planning to go the the Rodeo, and who will you see? It would be a great idea if any of you go, to take pictures and send me a photo and I will make a section for our photos for this year on the blog and Flickr.

“Uncle John” Turner
August 20, 1944 – July 26, 2007
Legendary Texas Blues Drummer Dies at 62
B.B King once exclaimed, “Man, I can set my watch to your time!”
Legendary Texas blues drummer “Uncle John” Turner died Thursday, July 26th, in Austin, Texas from complications related to hepatitis C. He was 62 years old.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Uncle John was a childhood friend and bandmate of legendary southeast Texas blues and rock guitarist, Johnny Winter. While playing drums with Winter in 1968, Turner convinced him to try a full-blown blues band format and sent for his friend Tommy Shannon to play bass. Success quickly followed, and the trio went on to record what many consider to be three of Johnny Winter’s finest albums: “The Progressive Blues Experiment,” “Johnny Winter,” and “Second Winter.” With fourth member Edgar Winter, they played Woodstock in 1969, as well as numerous other festivals and shows around the world. Well, we are talking rodeo again. Kick off is today, I believe. I’m excited and expecting this will be a good year. I don’t know if I will be able to go, but who knows. The schedule has a great list of country entertainers and other great entertainers for all of you who are not country music fans. I would like to hear from all of the fans who plan to see someone from our home town–Clay Walker. And I know my good friend here would love to here about it. After all, he will get me a picture of ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. He is such a cool guy. Right Lou?
After my first blog on country music a few days ago, I remembered my first Rodeo in Houston. I would like to know… Do you remember your first Rodeo? Write and tell me about the experience. Who did you see ? How many of you remember Casey and the Sunshine Band. That’s the group I saw. They had a popular single at that time. It was in the 70s. My Boogie Shoes. Yes that is right. My Boogie Shoes.
A great time for me. That’s right. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is celebrating its 75 year Anniversary. Alright Houston! The events starts February 27th. If you are going to see George Strait (to name just one of the good performers who will entertain us), start thinking about getting your tickets early. I hope to be one of the lucky souls that will attend. Any of the country performers will work for me. Who’s going to the Rodeo? Who will you see? I know there will be good stories to share.
I enjoy country music. As you may have seen from my Website, I have been lucky enough to meet one country music peformer, Kenny Rogers. I treasure the pictures that I have of Kenny Rogers, Gary Morris, and me.
Who would I like to meet? Well, to name a few: Dolly Parton, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Clay Walker.
Today, I would hope to hear from all of you. If you are a country music listener, share with me who you have met and what your experence was when you met him or her.
Make it a tremendous day.
